Spot Checking Pupil MacBooks

Modified on Mon, 12 Dec, 2022 at 2:58 PM

Here is two quick and easy ways to spot check a MacBook, letting you see exactly what is open on a pupil's Mac!

1. Pressing the ‘F3’ Key (found above the '3' key), will open ‘Mission Control’, a window that shows every app that is currently open on the Mac. Alternatively, you can swipe to the left and right using 3 fingers on the trackpad to browse these apps in full screen. Here's a link to a video demonstrating this.

You might find the pupil has multiple desktops open, if you see another desktop (like in the image below), click it, then press ‘F3’ again to display what's open on that desktop.

2. Mission Control (F3) won't display all open Chrome tabs, so if you think a pupil has a web page open they shouldn’t have, you can check this by holding the 'Control' key and pressing the 'Tab' key when in Chrome.

This shortcut will instantly browse to the next open tab, including any tabs that have been ‘pinned’ in an attempt to hide them.

Keep using the shortcut until you come back around to the page you started on.

If they have something open they shouldn't have, you'll see it!
