Set Up Multi Factor Authentication

Introduction

This is a brief guide on how to set up mutli-factor authentication in Microsoft 365.

 

If you require any assistance at any step of this process, please pop into IT & Digital Services with your mobile phone.

 

Steps

1. Before starting, download the “Microsoft Authenticator” app on your phone https://aka.ms/getMicrosoftAuthenticator


2. On a computer, go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup


3. Enter your Microsoft 365 username & password. If you are prompted for a “work or home” account, select "work"


4. You will then see the screen below – Click “Next



5. On the next screen, click “Next


6. Click “Next” again 



7. On your phone, load up the “Microsoft Authenticator” app – The icon will look like this



8. Select “Add Account” & then “Work or School Account 



9. On the next screen, scan the QR code shown on your computer, then click “next


10. You will now get a push notification on your mobile phone, press Approve” and then “Next” on your computer


11. You will then need to register a phone number, then click “Next


12. You will then need to provide answers to three security questions, then click “Done

 

12. You will then be shown the screen below, then press “Done
